TPCH and Interfaith Community Services invite TPCH members to a free 8-hour Mental Health First Aid Training.

About this event

This 8-hour training will teach outreach workers, case managers, and other staff members how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. Participants will gain the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care. Participants who complete the full day will receive Mental Health First Aider certification.

This training covers:

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental illness
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance abuse
  • How to interact with a person in crisis
  • How to connect the person with help
  • NEW: How to administer naloxone in the event of an opiod overdose

Participants will also learn how to apply the ALGEE action plan:

  • Assess for risk of suicide or harm
  • Listen non-judgmentally
  • Give reassurance and information
  • Encourage appropriate professional help
  • Encourage self-help and other support strategies
